I believe in a better condition...

Or, "We have eternity in our hearts." Or, "Thinking that life matters is an understatement."

This will hopefully turn out to be more of a "free flowing" blog seeing that I intend to cover a broad statement. This comes from the verse that says that we have eternity written in our hearts (Psalms... I think...). Obviously one of the titles is this verse, yet the other two are from lyrics by a couple of bands that I enjoy. I believe this topic is more widely discussed than we would see on the surface.

Story is a marvelous way to put out a point and invoke an emotional response. We see this everywhere: campfires, bedtime, books, radio, movies and so on. Most of the best stories have a common theme. Good triumphs over evil, and the underdog comes out on top.
My favorite thing to see in a movie is justice. I believe that is why I so strongly like the batman movies, and the movie Taken. Despite the graphic nature, and sometimes, over the top violence, in the end justice is served. God is a god of justice and cannot be unjust. I feel he has put this in our souls when he created us.

Adam, created in the image of God, must have had a vast creativity. Seeing God, and experiencing His creation newly and perfect, in fellowship with Him would have made for much inspiration. Adam, also, would have known of God's justice, especially when it was enacted on him for eating of the fruit. The first court session held there in the garden with the serpent, Eve, and Adam himself was justice at its finest. Blame was made, yet each one having been guilty received a just punishment. Death entered the world, child bearing was to be painful, and the serpent was promised to be crushed.

On this side of the fall we are decaying, falling further from our intended state. I say intended, meaning that we come short of what God had created us to be. As We Came as Romans puts it: "We were designed for more in an image not our own, but we've fallen short. I'm quite speechless and was quite unaware of what the capabilities of a weak hear are."

A bit of theorizing: by now, the gene pool must be quite thin... though I am not a scientist. Could it be that Adam was a close representation of what our heavenly bodies are going to be like? God created us in His image and with the intent that we should live forever with Him in glory. A body that doesn't decay over time? What a concept eh? Imagine the strength of it, it was most likely glorious as well, modeled after God.

Being a lost creation we all have an inherent desire to get back to our creator.  We long for the home that we were meant to live in.  It is like those stories of the hero who is in an undesirable position, mostly.  Cinderella, for example, captive to the wicked stepmother and sisters knowing that she was destined to be a princess.  Or good old H.P. longing for his dead parents who, he knew, had been something more than what he was.  Gonzo, not fitting in with anyone else was determined to find where he came from... Outer Space that is!  We too are not of this world and not meant for this decay and downfall.

A paradox, however, exists.  On the one hand, we have this life that is far lacking from what we were designed for.  On the other, we have this life which is so crucial, as it is our existence.  Though not all what it was meant to be, God has given us this life.  And into this world and this decay, He sent His son.  He lived the fullness of this life and the condition that we were meant to be, dying to heal us of our brokenness.

"Thinking that life matters is an understatement," a line from Sky Eats Airplane, hits my heart hard.  What is the real impact of your life?  Obviously your actions affect others, whether immediately or at a later time.  But what about eternity?  Choices are made moment by moment that shape the course of our lives.  There are a few things we all have in common: we have parents, we make wrong choices, and we all die.  Sad but true.  Proverbs puts it like this: "There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope shall not be cut off."  What we do here prepares us for our eternity.

In summary, we are designed for far greater things than what we experience here on earth.  We have this hope programmed in our hearts and we need to live by it.  Lastly, the things that we do here have far greater implications in eternity.  Keep searching, keep seeking, keep pressing, live your life like and investment, and trust the one who created you, soul and body.
